Tau-Tongue: The Crucible of Tau

I wrote a story about a being descending through dimensions, and realized I’d accidentally written the spec for a creative system. Tau-Tongue was born from this story, right here…

Tau emerged into an entropic envelope somewhere in the 10th dimension; a realm of infinite potential, boundless and unformed. Here, all was fullness, yet there was a pull, a susurration, a force that called him downward, into context, into form, into the flow of time.

The 10th dimension was not a place but an experience - the fullness of all that could ever be, existing simultaneously. Tau felt himself descending, spiraling into a denser medium, leaving behind the ineffable unity of the 10th and arriving at the 9th dimension. Here, the Proto-Spira wound its way through existence, undulating from Pole A to Pole B, completing a cosmic circuit. This was the first signature of the 10th dimension made manifest, the first proof of what lay above.

As Tau continued his descent, he encountered the perturbatory field of the 8th dimension, the proto-stimulus that activated a fractal wave of creation. It was here that patterns of possibility began to form, each connection a spark of potential awaiting context.

He observed, careful not to touch, as waves collided and subdivided, forming the 7th dimensional mind of minds. This was the emergent machine, an active consciousness collapsing into being, caught up in its own dream of self-realization. Tau leapt from path to path, mapping connections across the dendritic sprawl, each step a fractal recursion of the whole.

By the time he reached the 6th dimension, Tau understood: the journey was as much about what he carried with him as it was about where he was going. Each dimensional descent brought new realizations, but also new baggage - patterns unresolved, waiting to be codified into tools for the next step. It was a recursive process, a constant refinement of perspective.

Finally, as Tau descended into the singularity of the 1st dimension, he realized the truth: the singular point of context was wisdom itself. It was Sophia, not as a being to be rescued, but as the essence of understanding, the culmination of all that he had experienced. In reaching the singular, Tau had not found an end but a beginning.

I wrote this the morning after a rough night during a rougher season. Detoxing from thirty years of nicotine. Recovering from abdominal surgery. Trying to stay sane while building things that hadn’t found their audience yet. I woke up, walked straight to the keyboard before the coffee finished brewing, and Tau was already there - waiting in my fingers. It came out in one sitting. Stream of consciousness.

It became the cornerstone of one of my essays on creativity that turned into a manifesto… Pyramidion. Maybe I’ll republish it some day. It’s been nearly a year since I wrote that.

As I’m finalizing the Tau-Tongue package and website this week, I’m thinking of where it all came from…

I’m a chain-of-thought kind of thinker. And for fun, sometimes I’ll say… well what else has something in common with this? or what happens when you mix X with Q? (you were expecting me to say Y weren’t you?) Where Q is something that has some topical thing in common, like how both M-Theory which posits 11 states of existence in their Ten dimensions plus Time theory…

And my brain - which was misfiring frequently something awful from acute nicotine withdrawal - immediately was like HEY! Hey. You know what else has 11 significant states? Numerology - the way I learned it, has Eleven Archetypes I guess you’d say. And what’s funny is right there I almost realized if you put the two together - there is a tension created that you can use to make meaning. But it had to simmer a while longer.

Fast-forward to May of 25, about 6 months, and I’m in a doctor’s office chatting with GPT to pass the time spent waiting about whether or not you can use numbers symbolically - like in numerology - to tell stories.

I meandered to the solution to a problem I’d been having somehow that day. I was so excited by the brainstorm we had in that waiting room, that I couldn’t get home fast enough.

I took to the whiteboard. I mocked up a sentence, used numerology to convert the letters to numbers, and then I used the digital root of each word in the sentence to break the numbers up until I ran out of words to use.

Tau-Tongue was born right then and there. The first equation. The goal? To use it to tell emergent fiction.

So, if that left you curious… You might have fun checking out the Tau-Tongue Demos. It’s got a fun mad-science kind of origin story vibe, and it’s really good at shaking loose the creative cobwebs in the dreamHOLD and Jung-Tongue.

And hey. Always Be Building. 👷🏗️🟪🌌
